Rs 6 crore incentives handed out to 964 EV buyers in 8 months in Chandigarh – EQ Mag

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (Crest) of the UT administration has released over Rs 6 crore in incentives to 964 purchasers of electric vehicles (EVs)since the launch of the scheme in September last year to April 30.

Under an “Early Bird Scheme” -a special incentive to woo buyers till March 31-Rs 1.43 crore was disbursed. The incentives have been given in all categories of EVs. Data showed that maximum incentives had been received by two-wheeler vehicles. A maximum of 705 two-wheeler EV purchasers had been given the incentives followed by over 241 four-wheelers and 17 three-wheeler buyers, according to the data,

“The “Early Bird Scheme” was to attract buyers after the start of the EV policy in September 2022. The department has received a good response as many people came forward to take the benefit,” sources said.

Data revealed that till the end of March 31, 2023, over 1,500 EVs had registered in the city after the notification of the EV policy in September 2022. Out of these, 1,095 were two-wheelers, 353 four-wheelers and 102 three-wheelers.

Currently, a purchaser of an EV will have to visit the office of the Crest to deposit the document like an invoice of the EV and others to avail the incentives. After processing and going by the laid down rules, the amount is released.

Debendra Dalai, chief executive officer, Crest, said,” The objective of the EV policy is being achieved. More and more people are gradually switching over from internal combustion engine to EVs in the city. The process of seeking incentives is simple and the amount is being disbursed on time.”
