SEOUL — Samsung Electronics Co. is using solar power to reduce carbon emissions.

The company’s four factories in Onyang, Giheung, Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek under its device solutions (DS) division have installed solar power generators in their parking lots.

With the solar panels covering an area of 27,660 square meters, each division generates about 2,847 megawatt hours per year.

Electricity generated from these panels is being used to run electric vehicle charging stations, LED screens at bus stations, and other facilities.

Samsung installed the solar panels throughout the parking lots to make sure that the panels receive the maximum amount of sunlight.

The panels also work as sun shades that prevent parked vehicles from becoming too hot, and protect them from snow and rain.

Samsung made a full transition to renewable energy at all DS branches in China and the U.S. in 2019, vowing to continue its efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
