SCCL aims to set up new solar power units
Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) embarked on an ambitious programme to set up new units to generate 500 MW of solar power. The company is firm on setting up new solar units with an installed capacity of 300 MW in the first phase within one year.
SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar, who held a review meeting on the progress in the implementation of the programme at Singareni Bhavan with the officials concerned, wanted attention to be paid to the establishment of the solar units in a big way.
Two companies – L&T and the Tata Solar Energy – gave a presentation on the solar panels and other solutions offered by them at the meeting. The SCCL Chairman wanted the companies to study the local climate and conditions prevailing in the region and come forward with a solar technology suitable for the collieries area.
Officials from the company, after visiting the Neyveli Lignite Corporation to study the functioning of the solar units in the areas, presented a report to the SCCL.
