Renewables Now – Japanese renewables developer Shizen Energy Inc has commenced construction of a 2.19-MWp solar power plant on abandoned agricultural lands in Kagoshima prefecture after raising the needed funds.
The financing comes in the form of a non-recourse loan from Minami-Nippon Bank Ltd.
Located in Shibushi City, the system will consist of three photovoltaic (PV) plants — Shibushi Matsuyama 1, 2 and 3 — covering a total of 34,401 square metres. The farmland beneath the solar park will be used for pastures.
Once in operation, the PV array will be able to generate around 2.68 million kWh per year, enough to meet the annual power demand of approximately 850 households. Power generation is scheduled to commence by the end of April 2021.
