Sineng Electric Supports Commissioning of Tanzania’s First Utility-Scale Grid-Connected Solar Power Station – EQ
Dodoma, Tanzania – Sineng Electric, a global leader in solar, energy storage and hydrogen solutions, has contributed to the commissioning of the 50MW solar PV project in the Kishapu district of the Shinyanga region, Tanzania. As the country’s first utility-scale grid-connected photovoltaic power station, the project is equipped with Sineng Electric’s advanced PV inverter solutions and has now achieved full-capacity grid connection, marking a key step in Tanzania’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and propel the growth of its renewable energy sector.
This ground-mounted solar power plant is connected to the national grid through a 220kV transmission line. Sineng Electric supplied its 6.6MW MV turnkey stations (EP-6600-HB-UD/33), each integrating a medium-voltage transformer and switchgear into a compact design. Engineered for high power density and large block sizes, the solution delivers maximum efficiency of 99% and supports a DC/AC ratio of up to 1.8, maximizing energy yield and system performance. In addition, Sineng’s solar solution ensures reliable and stable operation during the rainy season, enhancing system resilience under challenging environmental conditions.
This project is expected to play a crucial role in alleviating electricity shortages while providing affordable, sustainable energy to local communities. Once fully operational, the solar power plant is projected to generate around 72,000 MWh of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 57,000 tons per year.
Tanzania is on the cusp of renewable energy transformation, and the Shinyanga project represents a significant step toward realizing this vision.
