JAKARTA : China has succeeded in turning on an artificial solar installation that uses nuclear power. The installation, called Tokamak HL-2M, produces heat energy that exceeds the core of the sun itself.

Launching phys’s page, the installation is operated in the Chengdu area, West Sichuan Province, China. This artificial sun is made to get clean energy sources that are environmentally friendly.

According to the Atomic Energy Agency of China (CAEA), this shows China’s independence in controlling large-scale energy resources. Tokamak HL-2M is designed to respond to natural reactions that occur in sunlight.

“The development of nuclear fusion energy is not only a way to solve China’s strategic energy needs, but also has great significance for the sustainable development of China’s national energy and economy in the future,” said the CAEA researcher.

With a more sophisticated and controlled structure and model, the new equipment can produce plasma hotter than 200 million degrees Celsius and the plasma electric current level can be increased to more than 2.5 trillion amperes.

CAEA claims that the artificial sun that has been installed in Chengdu is the most sophisticated and the largest with the highest parameters in China. The engine is capable of providing key technical support for China in developing high-quality nuclear fusion and becoming an international platform.

Chinese scientists have been working on developing a smaller version of the nuclear fusion reactor since 2006. They plan to use the device in collaboration with scientists working on the International Monuclear Experimental Reactor.

The project is the largest nuclear fusion research project in the world based in France. This project is expected to be completed in 2025 and can be operated commercially.
