RAIPUR : In a bid to provide relief to villagers from wild tusker terror, villages affected by human-elephant conflict in Korba district are getting illuminated at night with solar street lights.
Solar power plant has been set up by the Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) in eight villages of Podi-Uproda development block under Katghora forest division.
Solar power plants of three kilowatt capacity have been set up in eight villages of Podi-Uproda development block under Katghora forest division. These villages include Lad, Baniya, Tnera, Bala, Saliha Bhantha, Kendai Kendai Sadakpara, Kendai Basti and Thoothipipar.
CREDA assistant engineer NK Rai said that before the installation of solar lights in these villages, a large number of wild tuskers used to enter the villages at night time, and they would damage crops and houses of villagers. To help them, solar power plants have been installed in eight villages with the help of DMF fund.
He explained that 10 panels of 300 watt capacity have been installed on the roofs of the schools. Through these panels, electricity is generated from sunlight during the day. The electricity generated from the solar power plant is delivered to the street lights through underground cables keeping the street lights on throughout the night.
With the availability of solar lights to these villages, the village roads, streets and check-points are getting illuminated at night. This has been a sigh of great relief to villagers as elephants do not enter the village due to the light, which reduces the threat of life and property.
