The De Wildt Solar Farm has recently entered into commercial operations, having received facility completion. Located within the Madibeng local municipality, the 50 MW solar photovoltaic project is currently the fourth utility-scale plant to come online in the North West province under five months.

Comprised of 169,140 solar modules, the plant is expected to contribute 123 GWh per year to South Africa’s national grid through Eskom’s Zolograph switching station. All four projects have demonstrated the renewable potential within the North West Province and will deliver much-needed power to the region.

Additionally, the plant has initiated socioeconomic benefits including job creation – employing 400 locals during its construction – and skills transfer, with the establishment of training programs contributing to community welfare and social development.

“These projects will include training and accelerator programs, skills development training and other welfare initiatives,” said Nomzamo Landingwe, Chief Community Operations Officer, De Wildt Solar.
