In Short : The strengthening of intra-state power transmission and distribution systems in the North Eastern Region and Sikkim signifies a focused initiative to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the electrical infrastructure within these areas. This project likely aims to address energy access, grid resilience, and support the broader development goals of the regions involved.

In Detail : The Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy has informed that the Ministry of Power is implementing two projects for strengthening of intra-state transmission system as well as distribution system in North-Eastern States and Sikkim.

North-Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP) for six States (Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland), for strengthening of the Intra-State Transmission and Distribution Systems (33kV and above) at revised cost of ₹ 6,700 crore.
Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution System in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim at revised cost of ₹ 9,129.32 crore.

The implementation of the above projects will strengthen intra-state transmission as well as distribution system of the North Eastern Region and improve connectivity of the upcoming load centres with the National grid to achieve affordable and reliable 24X7 power supply to all categories of end consumers in states of North Eastern Region, including Sikkim.
