China’s Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274) said today it has signed an inverter supply contract for the 200-MW Kom Ombo solar project in Egypt.

Sungrow will deliver its 250-kW inverter solution for the USD-160-million (EUR 132.5m) plant that will be built within the desert area of Kom Ombo town in the Aswan Governorate.

The project is being developed by Saudi renewables firm ACWA Power and will be constructed by Sterling and Wilson Solar Ltd (BOM:542760), or SWSL.

The government of Egypt and ACWA Power sealed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for Kom Ombo in October 2019. The Government Guarantee was signed in January 2021 and the final project agreements, including the Network Connection Contract (NCC) and Usufruct Agreement (UA), were inked in April, the announcement says.

The solar plant is seen to commence commercial operations in the third quarter of next year. It will have the capacity to produce some 650 GWh of electricity per year that will be enough to supply about 130,000 homes.
