China’s Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274) announced on Friday that it will supply equipment for a 36-MW off-grid solar project at a gold mine in Egypt coupled with a 7.5-MW battery.

Specifically, Sungrow will deliver the 1,500-V 6.25-MW photovoltaic (PV) inverter solution and the highly integrated energy storage system with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. The client is German renewables company Juwi AG, which, alongside Cairo-based general contractor Giza Systems, is building the solar-plus-storage plant at the Sukari gold mine.

According to the announcement, this particular project will result in the largest solar-plus-storage plant located at a mine site. Sukari is operated by an Egyptian government entity and Centamin Plc (LON:CEY). The latter will partially shift away from fuel consumption thanks to this micro-grid project.

The plant is seen to be commissioned in the first half of 2022.
