Togo Issues Request For Proposal For 50 MW Solar Under Scaling Solar Program Of World Bank – EQ Mag Pro
AT2ER in Togo has issued RFP round for a 50 MW solar power plant under Scaling Solar program
Out of 20 applicants that responded to the RFQ round, 9 were shortlisted that now have been asked to submit proposals
It includes 3 consortiums and 6 individual companies from across the globe
The Government of Togo has launched a call for request for proposals (RFP) from shortlisted bidders for 50 MW grid connected solar PV tender launched in December 2019 under the World Bank Group’s Scaling Solar program.
The project is to be located near Sokodé in the Centrale Region of Togo. Winner will be tasked with design, finance, construction and operation of the solar project.
In December 2019, Togo’s Agence Togolaise d’Electrification Rurale et des Energies Renouvelables or Togolese Agency for Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy (AT2ER) launched request for pre-qualification for the 50 MW project which was estimated to have between 60 MW AC to 80 MW AC capacity to be set up as 2 projects.
Out of 20 companies that responded to the call, 9 were selected as pre-qualifiers who will now have to submit proposals for the project. These include 3 consortiums of Access/TSK Togo IPP, EDF Renouvelables/Meridiam, and ib vogt/Elsewedy.
Individual companies that have been shortlisted include Engie Global Developments B.V., Globeleq Africa Holdings Ltd, Nareva Renouvelables, Samsung C&T Corporation, Scatec Solar ASA and Taqa Morocco.
Launched on August 30, 2022, last date to submit proposals is December 15, 2022. Further details are available on Scaling Solar’s website.
Togo is heavily dependent on its neighbors to source electricity which comes at a high cost, and is not a reliable source hence the government is seeking diversification of its electricity mix to become self-sufficient. It aims to achieve universal access by 2030 under electrification strategy.
The World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) is supporting Togo with the installation of 60 MW to 90 MW solar with Scaling Solar projects.
In June 2021, UAE’s AMEA Power commissioned 50 MW solar power plant in Blitta region as its maiden operational power plant in Africa.
