India is becoming a growing hub for electric vehicles and with this rising horizon, comes the requirement for additional services like charging facilities, servicing, etc. In this article, we’ll be talking about one such condition i.e., charging solution providers that can be seen rapidly expanding with the advent of new and updated models of electric vehicles in India.

We are always anxious about the charging time any e-vehicles may take and this is the biggest concern among many people who wish to adopt electric vehicles. However, you often overlook that if we have a wide array of charging infrastructure across India, it would be accessible to anyone at any point in time. Let’s have a quick glance at the major players in the charging arena.

List of top 15 EV Charging Solution Providers in India

Delta Electronics India

Background: The Delta Group, is a division of a pioneer company created in 1971 and has its global headquarters in Taiwan. It has been active in India since 2003 as a member of Delta Group, Delta Electronics India Private Limited is well-known for its power and energy management business. Power electronics, automation, and infrastructure are the three business sectors to which Delta Electronics India is actively contributing. The company aims to offer breakthrough, eco-friendly, and energy-efficient solutions for a brighter and more sustainable future.

Types of chargers offered: The company offers two types of charging output which have their variants.

AC: Type-1, Type-2, Type-2 Socket. With a power output of 31.2kW to 22kW. DC: CCS, CHAdeMO, DC001. With a power output of 15kW to 150kW.

Partnership: The company is partnered with MG Motors and EV Motors to enable the EV charging wave in the Mumbai Region. On the other hand, CPO and Charge+Zone facilitate Ahmedabad Municipal Transport by providing 150kW DC fast charging.

Tata Power

Background: Tata Power is a subsidiary of the Tata group. The company aims to offer to produce, send, and distribute electricity. It is India’s largest integrated power corporation with a 10,577 MW installed capacity for electricity generation. It provides backend power infrastructure, provides EV charging solutions, and also does charger installation for small EV manufacturers. You can also install their application for a better experience.

Types of chargers: Tata Motors has set up 300 fast-charging stations across different cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Delhi, and Hyderabad.

Partnership: They have also joined hands with HPCL to set up electric vehicle charging stations across their different petrol pumps.

ABB India

Background: ABB Ltd. is headquartered in Switzerland. It is a multinational corporation that joined hands with ASEA Brown Boveri in 1988. Thus the abbreviation “ABB.” Since then, the business has also ventured into robotics and automation technology. The company aims to provide the world with a sustainable future. Hence they are working towards launching an optimal charging solution worldwide.

Types of chargers offered: The company offers two types of charging output which have their variants.

AC: Type-1, Type-2, Type-2 Socket. With a power output of 3kW to 22kW.

DC: CCS, CHAdeMO, DC001. With a power output of 11kW to 350kW+.

Partnership: ABB partnered with Audi to provide effective charging solutions in India. ABB helped to install 53 fast charger stations at NITI Aayog’s office in February 2018. They installed a charging station in Delhi along with EV Motors India.

Fortum India

Background: Fortum India is the future of advanced charging options in India and they are becoming the comprehensive charging station in India. They operate a charging network under the umbrella name of Fortum Charge & Drive India. To provide a better customer experience, they have launched a mobile application with offers an outstanding end-user experience.

Types of chargers offered: AC with a 50kW public fast-charging that has been set up in Gurugram under the Fortum Charge & Drive India initiative. DC output with 11DC rapid CCS/ CHAdeMO chargers has been spread across Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. Along with this, a DC001 charging point has also been set up across 38 locations in Hyderabad.

Partnership: Fortum has partnered with MG Motors to install 50kW charging stations across different Metropolitan.

Exicom

Background: Exicom was set up in 1994 and since then, they have operated with three different businesses namely Telecom, green mobility, and storage. They have designed and engineered their technology to suit the need of the 21st century. Recently, they have opened up a charging station in New Delhi that offers a combination of 3 connectors/guns for e-buses and an electric 4-wheeler.

Types of chargers offered: Exicom provides AC chargers in India: SBS-75X, and Type-2 with a power output of 1.1 kW to 22 kW. With a DC charger of GB/T, CCS, CHAdeMO with a power output of 15-200 kW.

Partnership: They signed an MoU with companies like BHEL for operating a massive Electric Vehicle station in Delhi. Along with that, they also have partnered with Bharat chargers for charging Tata Tigor and Mahindra e-Verito which are produced by EESL.

Quench chargers

Background: Quench was launched in 1908 under the name of Ador Group. Today Quench is a pioneering member of an electronics technology group that offers one-stop software & technical assistance for maintaining an electric vehicle. They also offer tailored battery charging solutions, including AC and DC superchargers for electric vehicles.

Types of chargers offered: Quench provides AC chargers in India Type-2 with a power output of 7.5 kW to 22 kW. With a DC charger of CCS, CHAdeMO with a power output of 30-240 kW.

Amara Raja

Background: Amara Raja is based out in Tirupati. It is a multinational conglomerate that offers a wide range of battery solutions to different sectors like Telecom, railways, Defence, etc. Amara Raja’s automobile battery brand is called Amaron is a direct competitor of Exide Industry’s battery.

Types of chargers offered: The company offers two types of chargers in India that are AC chargers: Type-2, and IEC 60309 with a power output of 3.3 kW to 22 kW. With a DC charger of CCS, CHAdeMO with a power output of 30kW-350 kW.

They also provide off-board AC chargers for two and three-wheelers.

Magneta Group

Background: Magneta Group offers its charging services under the name of Chargegrid. They set up the biggest charging station in Mumbai in 2021. They also launched their application where users can find their stations and explore more options.

Types of chargers offered: The Magenta Group in India offers AC chargers: Type-2, with a power output of 7.4 kW to 22 kW. A DC charger of CCS is capable to charge EVs such as the Tata Nexon, Tigor, and MG ZS EV, which are compatible with Grid’s DC fast charger, which has the capacity to provide a 90% charge in 35 minutes.

ChargeGrid has established standardized charging options that are appropriate for various models of electric two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and 4-wheeler electric vehicles.

Okaya Power Group

Background: Okaya power group is known for their end to end charging solution providers. They are the pioneers in the battery manufacturing system. They produce excellent tubular batteries engineered out of lead that is used for solar and inverter applications.

Types of chargers offered: The Magenta Group in India offers AC chargers: Type-2, IEC 60309, and IEC 62196 with a power output of either 230V or 415 V. The DC charger of CCS-2, GB/T, and CHAdeMO offers a charging capacity of 750/1000V.

Partnership: Okaya and Prakriti E-mobility joined hands to provide better services to EV owners. Okaya also came into the contract with REIL for the supply, installation, and commissioning of over 200+ EV chargers in all metropolitan cities.

VerdeMobility

Background: VerdeMobility offers both AC and DC for EV Charging infrastructure that can help you juice your vehicle quickly, and effectively. They deliver the best technology for various types of electric vehicles.

Types of chargers offered: VerdeMobility in India offers two types of chargers these are AC chargers: Type-2, and IEC 60309 with a power output of 3.3kW up to 22 kW. With a DC charger of GB/T, CCS, CHAdeMO with a power output of 15-200 kW.

They also provide CMS support and you can access their services anytime using their mobile application.

Mass-Tech

Background: Mass-Tech provides a wide array of mobility solutions ranging from battery sizing to installation, commissioning, and delivery of the DC system as a whole.

The types of chargers provided: They provide charging to both electric buses and electric vehicles that have DC Fast Charging Stations. The DC power output has a capacity from 10kW to 200kW. The output power range is available for all DC Fast charger protocols (GB/T, CCS, and CHAdeMO) that are compatible with the charger. Additionally, they provide Type-2 AC chargers in the 2kW to 43 kW range.

They have completed the partnership project with TATA Motors in setting up a fast DC chargers station across Mumbai.

P2P Power Solutions

Background: P2P Power solutions are known for their production, distribution, and export of a variety of goods. That also includes Active Harmonic Filters, 3-Level Active Harmonic Filters, DC chargers, and others.

PlugNGo

Background: goEgo Network is a Pune-based Electric vehicle charging solution provider. They help EV owners to charge their vehicles at their convenience. The types of chargers provided: They offer in-house design and development of AC chargers of Type-2 and AC001. They also offer double cable DC chargers for four-wheelers with 60 and 30kW. They mainly operate in four states namely Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Telangana.

Government’s Initiatives

If we need mass adoption of electric vehicles in a country like India, we need the government’s backing so that the long journey is less bumpy. With this regard, The Union Ministry of Power (MoP) has updated the consolidated guidelines & Standards for Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles in 2022.

The goal of the EV Charging Guidelines 2022 is to ensure a safe, dependable, accessible, and inexpensive charging and eco-system that will facilitate quicker adoption of electric vehicles in the nation.
