ERBIL : Emirati companies intend to invest in the Kurdistan Region’s electricity sector through the development of solar energy, the Gulf country’s envoy in Erbil said Thursday.

United Arab Emirates Consul General Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Dahri met the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Minister of Electricity, Mohammad Salih, in the capital on Thursday to discuss the investment.

“Some of the [Emirati] companies seek to invest in the electricity sector of the Kurdistan Region through solar energy,” the diplomat told the Kurdish minister, according to a press release from the ministry.

The Kurdistan Region’s solar-generated electricity currently stands at 75 megawatts across Erbil, Sulaimani, and Duhok provinces, the release noted.
