Electrify America is expanding its nationwide network of ultra-fast electric vehicle charging with its fifth charging station installation in North Carolina on April 3. The company is expected to have 11 charging stations featuring more than 56 chargers in the state by summer.

Electrify America is providing electric vehicle drivers in North Carolina more public charging options. Depending on the location, Electrify America’s charger stations can have a range in power from 50 kilowatts (kW) – the most commonly used charging power today – to 150 kW and up to 350kW, which is capable of charging a vehicle at speeds up to 20 miles per minute. Electric vehicle drivers should check the Electrify America website to locate a charging location and their associated power levels available at: https://www.electrifyamerica.com/locate-charger

The company has installed charging stations at the following locations:

  • Walmart Supercenter in Henderson opened December 17, 2018
  • Walmart Supercenter in Wake Forest opened March 1, 2019
  • Sheetz convenience store in Rocky Mount opened February 4, 2019
  • Sam’s Club in Asheville opened April 3, 2019
  • Pleasant Valley Promenade in Raleigh opened March 7, 2019

Local Raleigh organizations Plug-in NC and Triangle Clean Cities will be hosting an Electric Vehicle (EV) Meetup from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 at the new fast charging station located in Pleasant Valley Promenade. EV drivers are invited to bring their vehicles to display and plug in at the new Electrify America station, and the public is welcome to attend to learn more about driving electric and talk with current EV owners.

Electrify America plans to construct six more charging sites in North Carolina located in Greensboro, Charlotte, Durham, Smithfield, Lumberton and Cary.

“Whether currently driving or considering purchasing an electric vehicle, our mission is to provide consumers with the charging convenience they expect when hitting the open road,” said Anthony Lambkin, senior manager of charging operations, Electrify America. “From Asheville to Rocky Mount, we’re thrilled to provide North Carolinians options with our current and soon-to-launch charging stations.”

Since installing its first ultra-fast DC fast charging site in Chicopee, MA in May 2018, Electrify
America has accelerated the pace of installations nationwide. The added charging stations in North Carolina are a part of Electrify America’s plan to install, or have under construction, 484 charging stations with more than 2,000 DC fast chargers by the summer of 2019. The station will be located in 17 metros and along high-traffic corridors in 42 states – including two cross-country routes.
