In Short : On April 22, 2025, the Uttar Pradesh government signed MoUs with the Smart Energy Council of Australia and the Hinduja Group to accelerate renewable energy development. The agreements aim to increase solar capacity, promote green hydrogen, and foster skill development. Uttar Pradesh targets 22,000 MW of solar power by 2027, aligning with India’s goal of 500 GW renewable energy by 2030.

In Detail : The Uttar Pradesh government is accelerating efforts to drive a green revolution by signing initial agreements with the Smart Energy Council of Australia and the Hinduja Group. The government has set an ambitious goal to generate 500 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy by 2030, aiming to transform regions like Bundelkhand, Vindhya, and surrounding areas into solar energy hubs.

The government also focuses on generating local employment in panel manufacturing, installation, maintenance, grid integration, and transmission as part of these efforts. The Solar Mitra Yojana has been launched to build a skilled workforce for the growing solar sector.

Since Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath took office in 2017, the state’s solar energy production has grown from just 288 megawatts (MW) to over 2,800 MW, with further expansion underway. Under the Solar Energy Policy 2022, the state has set a near-term target of 2,200 MW. Solar parks will be developed across municipal corporations to realize this vision and solar grids will be installed along expressways and railway tracks.

The Bundelkhand Expressway will become India’s first solar expressway, marking a significant achievement in sustainable infrastructure. Additionally, Ayodhya is being developed as a solar city, and other municipal corporations, including Noida, will follow in a phased manner. The government is also promoting rooftop solar installations under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, with the target for rooftop panels in FY26 increased to 2.65 lakh units.
