Zimbabwe Energy Utility issues Solar Rooftop Tender for its Harare HQ
- Zimbabwe energy utility, Zesa Holdings Ltd has issued a tender inviting bids for a roof-top solar power installation at its head oce in the capital, Harare.
- The people of Zimbabwe face up 18 hours of power cuts a day under a load shedding program implemented by the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission & Distribution Company (ZETDC) in May this year.
The bids open today and will close on Dec. 19, according to a Government Gazette published Nov. 22. Solar panels may also be installed at Zesa’s provincial oces, said Fullard Gwasira, Zesa’s spokesman.
The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission & Distribution Company (ZETDC) implemented a wide scale load shedding programme in May 2019 plunging the country into darkness. The country has been forced to cut power generation at their Kariba Dam power plant due to low water levels.
The dam, on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia, is only 34% full and cannot generate electricity at optimal capacity. The utility is also facing generation constraints at Hwange Power Station South Africa’s state owned energy utility, Eskom, recently resumes supply of 450MW to Zimbabwe after a payment agreement had been reached.
