The outputs of multiple strings must be combined through DC combiner boxes, and then sent to a DC power distribution cabinet. More than 100 strings are connected in parallel. Therefore, the DC circuit is complex. Each string in a combiner box must be equipped with fuses. If each string contains twenty 250 Wp modules connected in serial, the number of DC fuses used in one 1 MW solar subarray is 400. And the number of DC fuses used in a 10 MW solar subarray can reach 4000. The total number of DC nodes in all DC combiner boxes is up to 20,000. Owing to the huge number of DC fuses and nodes, fuses or nodes may overheat, which can damage the insulation protective casing (layer) and greatly increases the chance of fire caused by the DC arc discharge.
