In Detail : The Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) in Prayagraj has recently installed a 230 kW solar power plant on its campus, with funding provided by the state’s Higher Education Department. This initiative was inaugurated during a special ceremony attended by Governor and Chancellor Anandiben Patel, marking a significant step toward the university’s sustainable energy goals.

The Vice-Chancellor of UPRTOU, Prof. Satyakam, highlighted the multiple benefits of the installation. He pointed out that the use of high-quality solar panels would significantly lower the university’s electricity expenses while contributing to environmental sustainability. Solar power, being a renewable and clean energy source, will help reduce the university’s carbon footprint and reliance on conventional energy.

This solar power project is part of UPRTOU’s broader commitment to sustainability. It complements other energy-efficient initiatives already implemented across the university’s campuses in Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. By adopting green energy solutions, the university aims to become more energy-independent while supporting national efforts to increase renewable energy adoption.

The installation of this solar plant at UPRTOU is in line with a broader trend in Uttar Pradesh, where the state government plans to install 800,000 solar rooftop plants by March 2027 under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana.
