REC Transfers Davanagere Power Transmission SPV to POWERGRID to Strengthen Karnataka’s Grid – EQ
In Short : REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) has transferred the Davanagere Power Transmission SPV to Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) after it emerged as the top bidder in a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding process. Valued at ₹366.26 crore, the project involves installing new transformers and 220 kV line bays, enhancing regional transmission capacity and supporting renewable energy integration over a 24‑month period.
In Detail : REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, has officially transferred the Davanagere Power Transmission Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID). This handover follows POWERGRID emerging as the top bidder through RECPDCL’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, ensuring a transparent and competitive allocation.
The project, valued at ₹366.26 crore, focuses on augmenting the transformation capacity at the Davanagere Power Station in Karnataka. It includes the installation of new 765/400 kV and 400/220 kV Interconnecting Transformers (ICTs) and 220 kV line bays, which are critical for strengthening the state’s transmission infrastructure.
The implementation period for this project is set at 24 months. During this timeframe, POWERGRID will be responsible for executing the scope of work, ensuring timely completion, and adhering to quality standards to enhance grid stability and reliability in the region.
The handover ceremony was held on September 24, 2025, where T.S.C. Bosh, CEO of RECPDCL, formally handed over the SPV to Arup Kumar Samanta, Senior DGM at POWERGRID. Senior officials from both organizations, along with representatives from the Central Transmission Utility of India Limited, witnessed the event.
This strategic transfer is expected to improve transmission infrastructure, enabling better integration of renewable energy sources into the grid. Enhanced capacity and modernized equipment will help meet growing electricity demand while supporting India’s transition to cleaner energy.
The project underscores the collaborative efforts between public sector enterprises in advancing national energy infrastructure. By leveraging competitive bidding, the initiative ensures efficient execution, optimal resource utilization, and alignment with India’s broader power transmission goals.
