WASHINGTON, D.C.: The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) presented U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-SD) with its Renewable Energy Champion Award today, an honor the organization bestows annually on the sector’s strongest supporters of policies to promote renewable energy growth and investment.

“Sen. Thune has been a longtime champion for the renewable energy industry,” said ACORE President and CEO Gregory Wetstone. “He played a pivotal role during tax reform and has helped advance policies that have promoted significant renewable energy investment in his home state of South Dakota and across the nation. We are thrilled to be able to recognize his steadfast leadership with this award.”

“I’m honored to receive the Renewable Energy Champion Award from the American Council on Renewable Energy,” said Thune. “As a long-time advocate for an all-the-above energy strategy that includes wind development and biofuels, I am proud of the work we’ve done to provide multi-year tax certainty for renewable technologies and the recent move by the administration to permit the year-round sale of E15 fuel. Continued investment in renewable energy will strengthen America’s energy security, drive economic growth in rural America and across the country, and benefit the environment.”

In 2018, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, renewable resources provided 70 percent of South Dakota’s net electricity generation.
