Company eyes up to 50 per cent cut in power costs

Kolkata: Lux Industries Limited has installed a 1 Megawatt solar unit at its plant at Dankuni in Hooghly, which is one of the largest facilities in the hosiery industry in Bengal.

With this solar installation, Lux has found a place among the handful of private companies to have set up a solar unit in the factory. The company said it has invested about Rs 5-crore on this project. The Dankuni plant started functioning in 2016.

Commenting on this, Udit Todi, senior vice president Lux Industries said: “The solar unit will help us cut down on electricity cost by 40-50 per cent and would generate approximately 13 lakh kWh power per annum. It is one of the largest solar power units in the Bengal in the private space.”

In sync with the Union government’s vision to achieve 100 GW (gigawatt) of solar power by 2022, the move will help in promoting green renewable energy, the company hopes.

Other than Dankuni, Lux has factories in Tirupur, Kolkata, Roorkee, Delhi, and Ludhiana. Todi said they have plans of setting up solar units there as well.
