Enel Collaborates with BXP for a 21 MW Solar Energy Procurement Deal in Texas

Enel North America has entered into a significant power purchase agreement with BXP, the largest publicly traded developer and manager of premium workplaces in the United States. The agreement entails a 21-megawatt (MW) portion of the Estonian solar project, presently under construction in Delta County, Texas.

Paolo Romanacci, Head of Enel North America’s renewable energy business, Enel Green Power North America, highlighted Enel’s commitment to offering various tools to help companies manage energy efficiently and reduce their carbon footprint. The agreement not only aids BXP in advancing sustainability efforts but also supports the growth of clean power in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid, increasingly reliant on solar power and battery storage.

Doug Linde, President of BXP, emphasized their dedication to meaningful decarbonization, focusing on energy efficiency, electrification, and renewable energy procurement. Contracting for additional renewable power signifies BXP’s positive impact in supporting renewable energy generation and the broader transition to a clean energy future. The agreement solidifies the growing partnership between Enel and BXP, building on existing collaborations for advanced energy solutions, including demand response and utility bill management.

The Estonian solar + storage project, currently under construction, is expected to be operational in late 2024. The 202 MW solar facility will be complemented by a 104 MW battery energy storage system. This solar project is anticipated to produce approximately 499 GWh of clean electricity annually, catering to the needs of over 46,000 US households. Furthermore, the project is expected to generate over $23 million in new local tax revenue for schools and public services throughout its lifetime.

Enel stands as a significant player in the renewable energy sector in Texas, boasting 3.3 GW of installed wind and solar capacity and substantial battery storage capacity supporting the ERCOT grid. With a strong commitment to renewable energy, Enel has over 1.8 GW of solar and a significant utility-scale storage capacity under construction in the state. Additionally, Enel’s contributions extend to demand response capacity, retail electricity supply, and a network of more than 12,400 electric vehicle charging stations across Texas.
