Envision AESC Signs Agreement to Develop Phase 2 of Ordos Battery Project – EQ Mag
Chinese battery supplier Envision AESC formally signed the agreement with the governments of Ordos and Yijinhuoluo County for the development of the phase 2 of its Ordos battery project. The signing ceremony was held in Shanghai.
The phase 2 of the Ordos battery project has a production capacity of 20GWh per year for high-quality battery products used by the company’s clients worldwide. Once completed and in full-scale production, the annual output value of the phase 2 is estimated to be more than RMB 24 billion. Additionally, the phase 2 is expected to employ around 3,000 workers.
Envision AESC has set up a smart battery industrial park in a local development zone of Ordos, China’s Inner Mongolia. The company intends to use the industrial park to manufacture batteries that are high in energy density, long cycle life, and rigorous in safety. Furthermore, these batteries are purposed for both NEVs and energy storage systems. The phase 1 of the battery project entered operation in April 2022 and has a production capacity of 10.5GWh per year. In terms of output, the phase 1 has delivered a total of more than 5 million battery cells.
Envision AESC claims that its smart battery industrial park in Ordos is the world’s first net-zero battery manufacturing site. This project is also part of a strategy being implemented by the government of Ordos to build a net-zero industry clusters comprising renewable energy equipment, batteries (for NEVs and energy storage), NEVs (e.g., electric trucks), and battery materials. To ensure the industry cluster is as green as possible and closed-loop with respect to energy usage, a wide range of solutions are being adopted for powering the manufacturing facilities within the cluster. These solutions include wind power, solar PV, energy storage, hydrogen power, carbon sequestration, trading of renewable electricity, and etc.
Currently, Envision AESC has plans to build four zero-carbon battery manufacturing bases in China. These include the plant in Ordos, as well as three others located in Wuxi (Jiangsu Province), Cangzhou (Hebei Province), and Shiyan (Hubei Province). Moreover the company is expanding overseas and setting up shops in Japan, France, Spain, the UK, and the US.
