Hub capable of providing 100km worth of charge in six minutes.

State company ESB has opened its first eight-bay high-power electric vehicle charging hub at Mayfield service station at junction 14 on the M7 at Monasterevin, Co Kildare.

The hub is capable of providing 100km of charge in as little as six minutes, according to the ESB, while it can cater for up to eight vehicles at one time.

The charging hub is one of 50 that the ESB will build using €20 million from the Government’s Climate Action Fund.

ESB executive director Marguerite Sayers said the opening is “a significant milestone” that would cut charging time for electric vehicle drivers.

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan noted that electric vehicle drivers who travel longer distances needed high-power charging centres on national routes.

Liam Fitzpatrick, director of the Lidon Group, responsible for Mayfield Services, said the company was delighted that junction 14 would be the first to boast an eight-vehicle charging post.
