As you may be aware, solar water pumps received a huge impetus with the launch of Government of India’s “Solar Pumping Programme for Irrigation and Drinking Water” in 2014, with an initial target of installing 100,000 solar water pumps (SWPs). Solar pumps have the potential to replace around 21 million electric and 7 million diesel powered pumps, thereby offering an environmentally friendly and financially sustainable solution to address energy-water-food nexus in India.

Against this background, FICCI believes it is important to highlight the immense opportunity that solar pumps application can present and recommend solutions to scale up, based on lessons learnt and successful models implemented. With this view, FICCI is organizing a Conference on Scaling up Solar Pumps Applications in India on September 2, 2016 at FICCI, Federation House, Tansen Marg, New Delhi.

The Conference aims to highlight the existing solar pumps’ landscape in India; bring in states’ perspectives and experiences; dwell on strategies for developing efficient supply chain under Make in India; and popularizing solar pumps’ adoption under the ambit of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
