A consortium led by Germany’s Siemens was awarded a tender for a Turkish wind power project after beating out eight other bidders on Thursday, officials from the energy ministry said. The Siemens consortium, which includes Turkey’s Kalyon and Turkerler, submitted a bid of $3.48 cents per kilowatt-hour to beat a rival bid from Chinese firm Ming Yang. Speaking to reporters following the auction, Turkerler Chairman Kazim Turker said that 35 percent of the project would be financed through international sources. Eight consortia, including Germany’s Enercon and Denmark’s Vestas, participated in the tender for the project, which will involve the construction of a 1,000 MW power plant and wind turbines that will increase Turkey’s wind energy production by 17 percent.
