On the occasion of World Environment Day, Amazon India has released some interesting findings on Indian customers becoming more environmentally conscious. Amazon.in has witnessed phenomenal traction in its Solar Power category as well as a remarkable increase in customer demand for Garden products such as seeds, live plants, garden tools, pots and planters. The report, comprising of data complied over the past year has come out with some interesting insights. According to the report, Tier II and Tier III cities are most inclined towards environmentally friendly practices and lead in demand for both – solar power and garden products.

Amazon.in’s Solar power product category has grown close to 400% year on year with over 55% of the demand coming in from Tier II & III cities. Among tier II & tier III cities, Barnala (Punjab) leads this demand followed by Mysore, Nagercoil, Thane, Tirupur. Increased awareness and consciousness about the urgent need to reduce our carbon footprint is quickly becoming an important factor driving this demand surge. Among Metros and Tier I cities, the ‘Garden city of India’- Bengaluru, firmly reestablishes itself as an environmentally responsible city and tops the charts in the demand for Solar Products. Increased demand has also been witnessed from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune. Some of the popular products in this category are solar lights, solar inverters, solar power banks and solar torches. Solar lamp and lantern are the top selling products witnessing over 60% of customer demand. New concepts like hydroponics, organic gardening, home composting, air purifying plants and drip irrigation are also witnessing an uptake among customers across the country.

The Garden Category on Amazon.in has also seen considerable traction in the last one year, showing a growth of nearly 300% YoY with tier II and tier III cities contributing to over 55% to the demand. Barnala, yet again, tops the list in demand for Garden Products. From the Metros, Bengaluru continues its leadership as the ‘green’ city. Seeds and fertilizers are the top selling products in the Garden category, having witnessed over 4X growth YoY, followed by plant containers and watering equipment that have seen 3X growth over the last year.

Commenting on the findings, Kaveesh Chawla, Director, Category Management, Amazon India said, “Customers today are more environment conscious and recognize the importance of using clean energy.
