Chandigarh people it’s high time to use renewable energy and contribute their share into the eco-friendly space on earth. The Chandigarh administration has now made the installation of the solar plant mandatory on the rooftops of residential houses across the Chandigarh.
The notification for installing the solar panels on the rooftops of the houses located in Chandigarh was issued by the UT administration someone and a half years back on May 18, 2016, but wasn’t implemented completely then. Now the deadline for the notification is soon expiring and UT administration will begin issuing notices to the house owners who will not abide by the rules set.
Solar panel is made mandatory for every house in Chandigarh
As per the notification issued by the Chandigarh administration, all the residential buildings spread across the area of 500 square yards or above along with the group housing societies will have to compulsorily install the solar panels on the rooftops for using the renewable energy that it creates.
In Chandigarh alone, there are over ten thousand residential buildings that are built on the area of 500 square yards and more across various sectors of the UT out of which only 100 houses have installed the solar panels on their rooftops of 579.74 kwp. However, over 158 residents of Chandigarh have applied for the solar panels of the 896.24 kwp.
Why is solar panel installation mandatory in Chandigarh
If we talk about why the installation of solar panels on the rooftops of the residences in Chandigarh mandatory, the officials mentioned that inspite of the notice issued by the UT administration of installation of solar panels mandatory on the rooftops of the residential buildings, the Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) was not happy with the response of the citizens. Complaining the estate office, CREST has asked it to get stern and begin an action against the defaulters. As the deadline for the notice issued is coming closer, the individual house owners with the residential building located in Chandigarh will be issued notice for not abiding by the laws.
The government of India wishes to see Chandigarh as a ‘model solar city’ in India. By far, Chandigarh has touched the mark of 13.5mw but the centre foresees to make Chandigarh a 100% solar panel installed city with capacity of 50mw on the rooftops of both at residential and government buildings of the by 2022.
