KUALA LUMPUR : Kumpulan Powernet Bhd has secured two engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contracts in Indonesia worth a collective RM54.6 million, which marked its first EPCC wins in the country.

The contracts, awarded to its wholly-owned KPower International (L) Ltd by PT Pat Petulai and PT Klaai Dendan Lestari, are for EPCC works of mini hydro power plants with a capacity of 3.1 MW and 2.6MW in Sg Sipang and Sg Klaai respectively, in the province of Bengkulu.

In a statement, KPower said the relevant parties will enter a definitive agreement within 90 days from the date of acceptance of the awards, and that both projects are expected to be completed within 24 months.

The contracts are in line with the group’s expansion plan which is to grow KPower throughout the ASEAN region after its successful foray into the sustainable energy and utilities space in 2019, said KPower group managing director Mustakim Mat Nun.

“These contract wins are not only a ringing endorsement of our capability in the renewable energy infrastructure space in Indonesia but it also augurs well with our plan to further enhance our competitive edge and geographical presence in the specialised EPCC segment within the ASEAN region,” he said.

To expand its footprints in the hydropower energy space not just in ASEAN but also South Asia, KPower also intends to build its capabilities in other renewable energy or RE spectrum, such as large-scale solar projects, and widen its product offerings to include hybrid wind/solar energy projects, targeting the Europe, Middle East and Central Asia markets.

The group has, to date, secured orders totalling RM1.4 billion from Malaysia, ASEAN and Nepal, and aims to add RM2 billion to its orderbook by end-June, 2021.
