EV (Electric Vehicle) owners looking to explore Ladakh can now breathe easy. Along the Manali-Leh Ladakh route, you will stumble across 18 EV charging stations. 15 of which were set up 10,000 feet – 14000 feet above mean sea level.

These stations are the world’s highest charging stations, situated on the highest motorable passes in the world.

EV charging stations in Ladakh

Set up by Shuchi Anant Virya, the joint venture company between EV-based mobility solutions provider Lithium Urban Technologies and Fourth Partner Energy, a solar energy company for commercial and industrial businesses, brought EV connectivity to the route by installing a mix of Type-I and Type- II AC chargers. These would cater to two, three and four-wheelers to charge their vehicle, encouraging others to make the switch to sustainable energy along the way.

With the rise of travellers along this scenic route, the amount of air pollution caused by fossil fuels has increased significantly, which does major damage to the environment.

“Through this initiative, PowerBank’s primary goal is to ensure that we convert at least 50% of the vehicular traffic to EVs and significantly reduce tailpipe emissions in the Ladakh regions in the next 36-48 months. We also seek to bring about a paradigm shift in how people perceive EVs – by addressing apprehensions around the availability of energy for long hauls and overnight road trips,” said Sanjay Krishnan, founder of Lithium Urban Technologies.
