The district administration has identified 19 acres of land at Solar on the city outskirts for establishing a full-fledged bus stand.

Additional bus stands for the city have been a long-pending need of the public. As many as 2,100 trips are being made every day from the main bus stand by mofussil buses.

The new bus stand will be designed with a capacity to handle 1,200 trips by mofussil buses operated from Central and Southern districts, District Collector S.Prabakar said.

A portion of government ‘poromboke’ land will be utilised for constructing the proposed bus stand and a large vehicle parking stand at Solar.

The need for the mofussil buses to enter the city will be completely obviated. All buses could be diverted through the ring road, the Collector said.

The ring road originating at Kokkarayanpettai in Namakkal district links the Erode- Karur road with Kangeyam road at present. The third phase of the project providing connectivity till Thindal is at an advanced stage of completion.

Though there is a long-term plan for construction of a bus stand at Chithode with capacity to handle 900 daily trips, adequate land was not available. Nevertheless, Chithode will be the ideal location for the facility, the Collector said.
