Research firm IDTechx has issued a new study analysing the global lithium-ion batteries market and its impact on the electric vehicles (EVs) industry between 2020 and 2030.

Key study findings include:

  1. Shortage of lithium-ion batteries is probable
  2. They are too few gigafactories
  3. Too many burning batteries
  4. Factories are being shut down to address lithium-ion battery problems
  5. The US-China trade war to negative impact on the market
  6. Inadequate lithium or cobalt mining
  7. The demand for EVs is underestimated, demand will increase if promised cell cost reduction is met (3,900GWh in 2030)
  8. Parity of EVs with conventional cars is expected in 3 – 7 years
