MG Hector is one vehicle that is set to change the dynamics in the SUV segment upon its launch. With a bold design and a long list of features, the upcoming Hector is sure to roll many eyes. The SUV was unveiled in India on May 15 and its launch is set to take place in June 2019. While we already know about the engine options available with the SUV, there was no clarity about the mileage figures. But now, the fuel efficiency numbers are out as well.

Talking about the engine options of MG Hector, there will be petrol as well as diesel units. The upcoming Hector will get a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 143 PS and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. The engine will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and have an optional 6-speed DCT (Double Clutch Transmission). So far as diesel option is concerned, there will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor making 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. This engine will come with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Besides, the petrol engine will have an option for a 48V Hybrid System. With a 48 Volt lithium-ion battery, the hybrid system will have key functions like engine auto start-stop, regenerative braking and e-boost, and it will increase mileage by 12 per cent and reduce CO2 emissions by 11 per cent. However, the hybrid option will only get a 6-speed manual gearbox, with no automatic option.

MG Hector’s hybrid system will have a fuel efficiency of 15.81 kmpl, a report by Autocar India has claimed. The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol manual option will return with a mileage figure of 14.16 kmpl, while the DCT trim will be slightly lower at 13.96 kmpl. The 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine will have a mileage figure of 17.41 kmpl.

The company has already announced that MG Hector bookings will start in early June. Several reports have claimed that the upcoming SUV will get four variants — Style, Super, Smart and Sharp.

MG Hector gets over 50 connected features, with iSMART technology. Its exteriors will boast of features like LED headlamps and tail lamps, LED front and rear fog lamps, shark fin antenna and dual tone machined alloys. Inside the cabin, there will be features like 10.4-inch HD touchscreen AVN system, 7-inch coloured MID, 4-way power adjustable co-driver seat, eight colours ambient lighting, 2nd-row seat recline and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.

MG Hector will rival against the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Harrier. Expectations are that MG Hector price will hover between Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). However, like Hyundai surprised us all with the price of Venue, MG Motor India might do the same with Hector. We will get the exact prices only at the SUV’s launch.
