Mitsubishi Motors Corporation participated in a joint study of renewable energy in the Sumba Island, Republic of Indonesia. The study is aiming at utilizing the energy by photovoltaic power generation, which is effective in remote islands where it is difficult to secure gasoline. To supply stable electric power generated by renewable energy, the study was originally started in December 2017 by the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology of Indonesia and Kyudenko Co Ltd as a support project of Ministry of the Environment of Japan.

In February 2018, MMC presented eight units of Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid SUV, two units of i-MiEV pure electric vehicle, and four units of battery charger to the Indonesian Government. Of these, one unit of i-MiEV and battery charger are used in the joint study in Sumba Island, which is conducted for four months, starting from August 1st to November 30th, 2019.

Toshinaga Kato, Vice President of MMC said that “It is a great honor for Mitsubishi Motors to join the study. I hope that our EV would be helpful for lives of Indonesian people.”
