Mundle English School has set an example for others to follow by installing a solar power unit on its terrace that will not only help protect environment but also promote pure energy, said municipal commissioner Ashwin Mudgal on Friday.
Mudgal was speaking after inaugurating the solar power unit at the school. Efforts of the school to make it electricity free and save on expenses incurred on bills are laudable, he said and exhorted other institutes to follow suit.
Makarand Pandharipande, executive chairman of the school situated near Deekshabhoomi, said that the 14 kilo Watt solar system installed on the terrace of the building with invertor and solar plates cost Rs14 lakh. “Currently, we are running the school without purchasing electricity from MSEDCL. Earlier, we used to pay at least Rs1 lakh every month on power bills. Funds thus saved can now be used for the welfare of students and undertaking various activities,” he said. The school is in the process of installing a 50 kilo Watt system so that the entire premises will be run on solar energy.
