JAIPUR: Rajasthan has witnessed an over 400% rise in registration of e-vehicles in the past four years from 2018 till 2021, according to official records. Last year, the state saw the highest registrations so far with 31,368 e-vehicles registered. In the current financial year, 11,016 e-vehicles have been registered so far.

Officials said the number of e-vehicle registrations have been increasing gradually in the state due to increased awareness amongst people towards using a sustainable mode of transport.

“More and more people are shifting to e-vehicles as an alternative to petrol and diesel vehicles, as fuel prices are increasing constantly and people are understanding that electric vehicles is the way ahead. After subsidies were announced by the state government, registrations of evehicles especially in the twowheeler and three-wheeler segments have gone up a lot. For four wheelers also, gradually people are shifting to evehicles,” said a senior official from the transport department.

At present, if one purchases electric vehicles in the state then the government gives complete reimbursement on state GST, along with a one-time incentive based on the battery capacity of the vehicle. For two wheelers, the incentive ranges from Rs 5000-10,000 based on the battery capacity and for three wheelers, the amount goes up to Rs 20,000. E-vehicles have been kept out of the purview of motor vehicle tax in the state and such vehicles also do not need any commercial permits, said officials.

Last month, the Rajasthan government approved the Rajasthan Electric Vehicle Policy to encourage EVs in the state. The state government approved an additional budget provision of Rs 40 crore for the state goods and service tax(GST) reimbursement on purchase of electric vehicles.

An official statement released last week stated, that the implementation of the policy will reduce pollution caused by diesel and petrol vehicles in the state.
