A new Tracker report from Navigant Research presents data on known grid-tied and remote microgrid projects in the proposal, planning, and deployed phases, covering seven segments across six principal geographies. As of 4Q 2015, Navigant Research’s ninth edition of its Microgrid Deployment Tracker (Tracker) has identified 1,437 microgrid projects worldwide, representing more than 13 GW of capacity. With significant additions to the database of 83 projects in New York funded by the NY Prize competition, as well as a portfolio of 816 MW near the Arctic Circle in Russia, the latest edition of the Tracker represents a growing microgrid landscape, particularly for the remote segment. Click to tweet: According to a new report from Navigant Research, remote microgrids now make up more than half of all microgrids deployed globally.

“This latest version of the Microgrid Deployment Tracker underscores that microgrids are becoming an increasingly global phenomenon,” says Peter Asmus, principal research analyst with Navigant Research. “This update revealed more than 1,300 MW of newly identified capacity and found that more than 100 countries now have microgrid projects deployed.”While the United States still leads all countries in terms of microgrid capacity and total project numbers, Asia Pacific is assuming more of a market leader role, according to the report. The region is tied with North America in terms of total identified microgrid capacity, with each region representing 42% of the total market.
