The Ministry of Railways has planned to set up a 50 MW solar plant at vacant railway land in Bhilai , the Central Government has informed.

It has planned to set up 500 MW solar plants on land based system for meeting its Non-Traction and Traction requirements, mostly through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) using vacant Railway/private/Government lands .

Remaining capacity shall be procured from solar parks across the country or by setting up solar plants on vacant Railway land subsequently. In Maharashtra, at present, no land based solar plant is proposed, it informed.

The power procured from solar parks set up across the country shall be utilized for traction purposes in the State of Maharashtra also to meet out its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO).

Notably, the Central Government has offered a budget grant of Rs 2202 crores for laying new railway tracks in the South East Central Railway (SECR) zone during financial year 2018-19.

As many as five new railway line and six track doubling projects are in different stages of execution which fall partly or fully in the State of Chhattisgarh, the Union Railway Ministry has informed. Therefore, 19 projects of new lines and double tracks having a total cost of Rs 23,710 crore are in different stages of execution which fall partly or fully in the State of Chhattisgarh. The aggregate length of these projects is around Rs 2,742 Km.

The project of new railway line with electrification from Katghora- Mungeli-Kawardha-Khairagarh-Dongargarh Corridor (255 km) besides Katghora to Kartala (22 km) will be implemented at a total cost of Rs 4821 crore which is being developed by Chhattisgarh Railway Corporation Limited (CRCL), a Joint Venture Company of Ministry of Railways and Government of Chhattisgarh.
