Rooftop solar panels policy to be before Cabinet soon:Goyal

The policy to encourage rooftop solar power panels is ready and will soon be placed before the Union Cabinet for consideration and approval, Power Minister Piyush Goyal said. “I have approved the rooftop solar panel policy. I will take it to the Cabinet very soon,” he said while speaking at an award function organised Dun & Bradstreet here. The policy, according to sources, will have detailed guidelines about installing rooftop solar panels on various buildings including government schools, colleges and other intuitions.

Government has set an ambitious target of having 100 GW of solar power generation capacity by 2020 including 40 GW of rooftop solar. The policy will contain technical specification and other financial incentives for encouraging roof top solar projects. Goyal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to focus on structural improvement rather than providing quick fix or bandage solutions. He said this a focused approach on solar power will result in double digit economic growth in two-three decades.
