In Detail : Union Minister Shripad Yesso Naik has called on both domestic industries and international companies to invest in India’s growing green hydrogen sector. He described it as a historic opportunity to reshape the country’s energy systems while promoting sustainable development and job creation.

Naik emphasized that green hydrogen will play a vital role in decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, cement, and oil refining. These industries currently rely on fossil fuels, and green hydrogen presents a cleaner alternative to support India’s energy transition goals.

He highlighted the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which has been allocated ₹19,744 crore to build a robust ecosystem for green hydrogen production, infrastructure, research, and market demand. The mission aims to position India as a global hub for green hydrogen production and exports.

According to Naik, the strategy includes a multi-pronged approach involving innovation, regulatory support, and skill development. He noted that empowering the youth with technical training will be crucial for the sector’s long-term growth and employment potential.

International collaboration was also stressed, particularly in the areas of technology exchange and establishing globally accepted sustainability standards. Naik said traceability of green hydrogen production is essential to meet export criteria and maintain environmental credibility.

He concluded by encouraging industry leaders to seize this opportunity and contribute to a cleaner future. By attracting large-scale investments, India can accelerate the commercialisation of green hydrogen and meet its ambitious targets for clean energy and carbon neutrality.
