Jakarta. Personal care company Kimberly-Clark Softex officially installed photovoltaic panels on their Sidoarjo plant in East Java.

According to Softex Indonesia president director Hendra Setiawan, the solar panel will generate 630 kilowatts of peak energy. The switch to solar panel roofs is also in collaboration with a local renewable energy startup, Xurya Daya.

“The installation will now replace 887,922 kilowatt-hours of conventional energy use at the plant every year, reducing carbon dioxide production by approximately 829,319 kilograms per year,” Hendra said in a recent official statement.

The amount of carbon dioxide absorption is equal to planting 10,381 trees for 10 years. Softex also hopes to help Indonesia increase its renewable energy mix to 23 percent by 2025 and eventually 31 percent by 2050.

“Through the solar panel activation, our sustainability effort has successfully contributed towards 13 United Nation Sustainable Development Goals, being one step closer to combat climate change,” Hendra said.
