The application window under the newly-opened fifth allocation round of the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme in the UK is scheduled to close on April 24, 2023.

An indicative table based on different scenarios is available here: https://www.cfdallocationround.uk/sites/default/files/2023-03/AR5%20indicative%20timetable%20-%20all%20scenarios%20-%20%20%281%29_1.pdf

Launched on Thursday, Allocation Round 5 (AR5) has a budget of GBP 205 million (USD 252.9m/EUR 233m). It is the first round to run annually rather than every two years.

The auction includes a GBP-170-million pot for established technologies, which for the first time encompasses offshore wind and remote island wind. The second pot will allocate GBP 35 million to emerging technologies such as geothermal and floating offshore wind, with GBP 10 million ring-fenced specifically for tidal stream technologies.

The administrative strike prices (ASPs) for offshore wind and floating offshore wind have been set at GBP 44/MWh and GBP 116/MWh, respectively. The ASPs for onshore wind and remote island wind are GBP 53/MWh, while for solar the ASP is GBP 47/MWh

The CfD support scheme backs the UK’s goal to have 50 GW of turbines installed in its waters by 2030. The previous auction allocated about 11 GW of clean energy capacity.
