SunSafe™ offers homeowners in New Jersey and California a more resilient way to power energy independence

Houston, TX: Sunnova Energy Corporation, one of the leading U.S. residential solar and battery storage service providers, announced today it will be offering solar plus battery storage to homeowners in New Jersey for the first time. Sunnova has begun offering its Sunnova SunSafe™ Easy Own 25-year solar plus battery storage service to new customers through its regional dealer network. Sunnova will also be offering its 10-year Sunnova +SunSafe™ add-on battery storage service offering to any homeowner with an existing home solar system. In addition, Sunnova also announced that it has begun offering its Sunnova +SunSafe™ add-on battery storage offering to existing Sunnova customers and non-Sunnova solar homes across three independently owned California utilities, Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E), San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE) and Southern California Edison (SCE).

In 2017, New Jersey experienced 64 power outages affecting more than 250,000 residents, according to the Eaton Blackout Tracker Annual Report. “What Sunnova SunSafe™ provides New Jersey homeowners is a value proposition that is centered around peace of mind. When the grid goes down, unlike solar-only systems, Sunnova SunSafe™ will continue producing and storing energy for your home’s most needed appliances,” said William J. (John) Berger, Chief Executive Officer of Sunnova Energy Corporation.

In California, PG&E recently announced its fire-prevention plan to intentionally cut off power to customers during periods of high winds.

“There has never been a better time to power your home with solar plus battery storage in California,” said Meghan Nutting, Executive Vice President of Policy and Communication at Sunnova. “We all rely on the consistent availability of electricity to power our lives, and solar plus battery storage means that even though the grid may be down, you will have access to back-up power.”

In addition to providing back-up power when the grid goes down, in California, the Sunnova SunSafe™ system also provides protection from peak utility rates. Intelligent control technology within the system automatically manages the flow of energy between the solar energy system, the battery, the home and the electric grid. This helps protect homeowners from high utility rates when utilizing a time-of-use utility rate plan.

Sunnova now offers Sunnova SunSafe™ in 12 U.S. states and territories, including New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, Maryland, Puerto Rico, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, California, Hawaii, Guam and Saipan.
