Swedish electric delivery van offers 400km range, includin from solar roof – EQ Mag Pro
Swedish electric vehicle company Clean Motion has unveiled its new electric delivery van, a compact vehicle with a solar panel roof that has a range of up to 400-kilometres, with 100 kilometres provided just by the solar roof.
The Relvolt electric delivery van is planned to be delivered in 2022 during the Northern Hemisphere’s autumn, and is intended to meet the increasing demand for sustainable last-mile vehicles.
A compact delivery van, the Re:volt measures in at only 3-metres in length, 1.4-metres wide, and 1.7-metres tall. Despite the relatively small size, however, the van boasts cargo space of 2,500 litres and is able to carry 450kg for a maximum weight of 700kg (including the vehicle’s 250kg weight).
The battery capacity can vary from 2.5kWh to 10kWh and weighs only 40kg, meaning that range can be set from anywhere between 70km up to 280km. When combined with power generated by the rooftop solar panel, a further 130km can be added, depending on geography and weather.
“We are not alone in integrating solar panels into vehicles,” said Göran Folkesson, CEO of Clean Motion. “What is unique is the energy efficiency of our vehicles, which means that the solar roof can make them self-sufficient in energy.
“It also means that with only 40kg of batteries we can offer a range of 280km, which will suit northern latitudes where the sun is not a reliable energy source.
“The market for environmentally friendly last mile deliveries is huge and rapidly growing, but the range of vehicles that can really replace the old fossil fuelled vans is not that exciting,” Folkesson added. “With Re:volt, we want to change the image of what a small electric vehicle can do – and start a green revolution in city deliveries.”
Clean Motion expects the Re:volt will begin rolling out by the end of 2022, and is currently looking for partnerships with companies who want to use the vehicle and help adapt the last details of the platforms to their needs.
