The government is mulling converting 10 percent of 60,000 vehicles that are plying on the road presently into electric-driven in the next five years.

Agartala: In a bid to save fuel and curb pollution in the state, the Tripura government has inducted Tripura Electric Vehicle Policy 2020 to promote electric vehicles.

As per a report by IANS, a senior official aware of the matters asserted that the state is the 15th state in the country and third in the northeastern region after Assam and Meghalaya to introduce the electric vehicle policy.

”State cabinet-led by newly appointed Chief Minister Manik Saha has adopted the policy to encourage the masses to use more and more EVs in the state,” he was quoted as saying by IANS.

As per the report, the government is mulling converting 10 percent of 60,000 vehicles that are plying on the road presently into electric-driven in the next five years.

The official further claimed that the electric vehicle policy is already in 14 states, including Assam and Meghalaya in the northeastern region of the country.

Notably, over 12,000 vehicles including around 8,000 private cars and 3,800 auto-rickshaws are being operated by the compressed Natural Gas (CNG), which is provided by the state-owned Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL).

Compare to petrol, the CNG is cheaper than petrol and diesel and entirely pollution-free.
