Rs. 41.46-cr project at Peruvannamoozhi expected to be completed in three years

Work on the Peruvannamoozhi mini hydro-electric project will begin on November 28.

KSEB officials said the excess water from the Peruvannamoozhi reservoir would be used for the 6MW power project, which would be linked to the Chakkittappara 110 kV substation. The Rs. 41.46-crore project would be the tenth such project in Kozhikode district, they said.

The government had acquired 0.454 hectares of land for the project. Also, permission was taken to make use of around 4.42 hectares of land owned by the Kerala Water Authority in the area. A special grant of Rs. 20 crore by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy would be used for the project.

Tenders have been floated for the work, which would include the construction of power tunnel, pressure shaft, pen stock pipes, power house tail race pool and access roads. The work is expected to be completed in three years.

It was in 2010 that the project was given administrative sanction along with two other mini hydro-power projects, the officials said.

Power Minister M.M. Mani would inaugurate the work at a function to be held at the Chakkittappara grama panchayat community hall.

Minister for Excise and Labour T.P. Ramakrishnan would preside over the function. Mullappally Ramachandran, MP, would deliver the keynote address.

KSEB Director V. Sivasadasan, District Collector U.V. Jose and representatives of various local self-government institutions would be present.
