The plans for establishing a solar power park capable of generating 50 Megawatts of electricity in Manipur was discussed yesterday at a meeting at New Delhi and the project would most likely be handled by NHPC.
According to a source, Chief Secretary Nabakishore presided the meeting held at Manipur Bhawan yesterday which also included officials of Solar Energy Corporation of India, NHPC, MSPDCL and MANIREDA.
NHPC has expressed interest in handling the project which will cost around Rs 250-300 crore and in signing a power purchase agreement with the State Government.
The source pointed out that a Central team would come to the State to survey possible sites for the project which will most probably be Jiribam or one of the places in the valley area although none has been finalised.
It is worth mentioning that solar rooftop power projects have been in operation for some time in the State.
