Today on 16 April 2018, Madras High Court has dismissed the petition by Shapoorji Palloonji Group against levy of 70% Safeguard duty on Solar Imports from China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore
Its now upto the Ministry of Commerce to decide whether to follow the recommendation of Directorate of Safeguards or not for levy of 70% duty for 200 Days
Probably, if this is imposed, chances are very low as MNRE really wants to achieve 100GW Solar by 2022
Well Shapoorji Pallonji group and other developers can also approach Supreme courts of India.
IF imposed, it will kill the 50% of Domestic Indian solar manufacturers and kill the Solar Power Developers who are also a domectic industry, Also the cost of solar power will rise. As witnessed by recent bids, Solar is already quoted above Wind Power and this might make the discoms reluctant to buy solar over wind.
