As part of its ongoing CSR initiative, Guwahati-Siliguri Pipeline Unit under Eastern Region Pipelines, have provided 110 solar-powered street lights in three villages in Nalbari and Kamrup districts.
The villages covered under the scheme are Khudrasankara, Akadi and Patoni, all lying in the vicinity of Guwahati Siliguri Pipeline Right of Way, said a statement.

The facilities were handed over by SK Satija, Executive Director of Eastern Region Pipelines, in the presence of S Nath, Deputy General Manager, and other senior officials of Indian Oil Corporation Limited on Saturday.

Solar street lights are a fully independent unit comprising of a mounting structure or pole of six metre height, 80 watt solar panel, 18 watt LED light and a 12 volt 100 Ah encased battery giving three-day autonomy.

The inhabitants of the villages of Patoni, Akadi and Khudrasankara mostly belong to the poorer section of society and are predominantly underprivileged. To ensure sustainability, village management committees have been constituted for transfer of ownership, the statement added.
